Camembert, Strawberry & Caramelized Onion Sandwich

Prep Time 35–40 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Thinly slice the onions. Add them to a skillet with 1 tablespoon of ghee and a pinch of salt.
  2. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Be patient — this will take about 20 minutes, but it’s worth it.
  3. Once the onions have reduced by half and turned golden, add the balsamic vinegar. Let it cook down over low heat for another 10 minutes.
  4. Assemble the sandwich with sourdough bread, Camembert, strawberries, and caramelized onions. You can swap the strawberries for pear or green apple — both add a wonderful touch.
  5. Preheat and grease your cast iron sandwich press. Toast the sandwich on both sides over low heat until golden brown and the cheese has melted.

Extra Tip 

Preheat your sandwich press thoroughly (at least 3–5 minutes) before using it. This helps prevent the bread from sticking and ensures an even, golden crust.
